Dukaan (Hindi: दुकान, meaning “shop”) documents the microarchitectures of Varanasi’s commercial life—compact storefronts, often no larger than two square meters, devoted to a single trade, service, or item. Arranged in dense, continuous rows that snake through the urban fabric, these spaces serve the everyday needs of local communities and reflect the cultural and religious diversity of the neighborhoods they inhabit.
